Migrant Workers Need State-supported Counselling

It feels terrible to see Migrant Workers walk in the scorching heat on roads built by them where we drive our luxury AC cars..where we live in luxurious homes built by them. And they are doing it for hundreds of miles, with their kids in arms amid hunger, exhaustion, mistrust & uncertainties!! Some have even pawned their last remaining or little jewelleries to survive and travel back to their homes!!!

In the Maharashtra train accident case, do you know the 4 Survivors were put along with the dismembered bodies of the 16 Dead, in the same special train they attempted to board after walking 36 kms? There were no reports anywhere of any Govt Official accompanying them. They all hailed from two very remote villages in MP. And 8 among them came from Tribal communities.

It was absolutely heart-wrenching and unfair!!! 💔 What makes us believe that only the rich or the educated ones have psychological issues??

Money is not everything always. Central & State Governments should also counsel them by sending Officials /Psychiatrists /Social Workers for direct interactions with them, to assure them, win their trust back and heal their wounded souls.🙏🏼

Hope things don’t further haunt us in months to come…..

Sufferings and Tragedies of the Migrant Workers during Lockdown

Those who are holding the 16 dead Migrants Workers responsible of sleeping on railway tracks in Aurangabad ‘goods train’ case, must take note of the following facts :

  1. Their Employer /Contractor stopped giving them wages and rations.
  2. Hundreds from their native state of MP boarded trains after getting passes. However they couldn’t get it. Then they were told to meet officials at the Jalna Collectorate which they did. But were asked to wait for some more days as the process takes time. (Jalna is 60 kms away from Aurangabad.)
  3. That is when they decided to walk for miles to another railway station Bhusawal, hoping to board a special train there. They were running out of money and rations, and could not wait anymore!!!!! They also took to the tracks to hoodwink the Police.
  4. After walking for about 40 kms, they were exhausted and needed to take rest. They chose the rail tracks at Satana village to rest because it was slightly elevated, and so they hoped it might keep some reptiles away. They also believed no train would be passing through at such a remote place due to Lockdown. Then they dozed off!

This is the account of 4 Survivors who are now on their way by train to MP.

I also “assume” that anyone in their situation would usually choose rail tracks when exhausted because it also offers cold iron rods as some relief in the summer.

  1. The blood-strewn rotis, clothes, few currency notes that were found on the tracks – were brought by them when they started their journey from Jalna where they worked for a private steel company. This was also accounted by the 4 Survivors.
  2. The 4 Survivors tried to wake up all the remaining 16 people from deep slumber. But the noise and honk of the approaching goods train silenced their desperate screams completely!!

Now think who is responsible for the sufferings and tragedies faced by the Migrant Workers ?

Could their rich Employers, Labour Contractors, the respective State Governments or Central Government do nothing at all for them⁉️ What are the IAS Officers and Secretaries for❓

Common Man has also given and is giving various Taxes & Relief Funds, apart from generous donations individually❗

Phir bhi – akheer hua kya ? The Migrant Workers were used and dumped in such a grave situation.

Is any Authority even listening to such kind of repeatitive alarming messages by the concerned people ?

Well…amid the chaos, the “reverse migration” too has started. Only the States like TN and Telangana – with a sheer political will, tactfulness and efficient human-resources management with now very essentially needed address to human-rights of the Migrant Workers, have taken this desired plunge!!! (Check the attached link).

Rest all are simply banking on empty emotions and counting their vote-banks that are yet to hatch…….’Netas’ released and brought back the Migrant Workers without conducting thorough tests..resulting in messy, horrible Covid spikes all over India‼️

And now who is going to give them work at their native places❓ Some have already decided never to step out again. One example – expert plumbers & carpenters from Odisha’s Kendrapara. Moreover, how are the businesses going to be impacted from where the Migration Workers returned❓

They all should have been retained at their respective places of work, and supported by their respective Employers, Labour Contractors, State Government & Central Government. And this support ought to have been holistic, including required mental /emotional counseling.

Bunch of visionless ‘netas’……..
