I am presently reading the original novel Q&A. I feel that Danny Boyle has deliberately removed lot of things from the novel (Father, Australian guy etc) deliberately to show india in bad light.

Yes, I agree with you all to some extent. My concern is how to come out from that colonialism? Can we do that? I hope so, but don’t see a way with the colonial mind set of the junta.

The colonialism is of course there, not only in this movie, but also in many other movies. The funny thing about it, we also make use of it. May be it is within our DNA.

Whats so special about it ? India was always a snake charmers country and this is how WEST wants it to be. Only DELHI do not see this that way…this is why ONE party says SHINING INDIA and other says MIGHTY INDIA.
But India still is a poor country and I do not feel shame to admit it. Life in METRO does not represent life in a country- so go in rural and go in any state of India…and I am sure you will get the picture.
Making a movie on slums…was very good idea…and I am happy for all who got name, fame and money…but if this is representation of India or Indian art…then I am sorry…this is somewhat depressing image for every Indian.
But you know- art is a subjective word and arena….so I should congratulate every Indian…that atleast we got some OSCARS…which is bencmark of great work altough we had many who could not manage that much.
Many directors who were legend [ Guru Dutt ] and many composers [ R.D / S.D ] who created so much innovation and style that no one could copy them till today, many singers [ Talat/Hemant/Mukesh ] and God knows how many actors fall in this wide space….

But they could not depict that SLUM DOG image and somhow managed to get oscars…

Do not worry about some self respect…we do not have that in our DNA- had we been having this factor…history would have been different and we would be perhaps calling the shots instead of USA.

Nice observations Dada.

I have seen better slum based masala movies in Tamil. This SlumDog Millionaire being in English might have pleased the Oscar committee and lot of lobbying would have involved. I was not able to watch this movie beyond first 5 minutes. It seemed to me as just another crap film. The Oscar committee thought otherwise, though.

Also “Jai Ho” will never rank among top 50 songs of Rahman. I wonder how this won Oscar!

Coming to the theme, slumdog or millionaire is based on the person’s own endeavors as mentioned by Dada.
