Yes, you are right. The placement scenario is bad not only in IITs, but also in all other places too. Instead of buckling with the pressure, we should stand up with determination.

Life is there to fight and enjoy, not to loose and destroy. Suicide is not at all the solution to any problem, rather is a big problem to solutions.

To add to the concerns you have pointed out here:

1. Recent suicide by an MTech Student at IIT Kanpur – He took the extreme step, as he could not get a so called high paid job. This is a serious concern.

As an IITian, I can say, every one will get a job on his/her own. It is just a matter of time. The peer pressure should be handled properly by regular councilling (by the parents or the faculty or student body).

I urge to every one that take care of these problem seriously, before getting out of our hand.

This is very true picture about the situation. I feel such kind of articles should go to press so that everyone can be benefited. As rightly pointed out above we need to change society mentality which is only possible by such awareness programme.

You have very well pointed out the situation in IIT. Suicide has become a societal problem. In this era of industrialization where every human being seems to be mere a product. We have somewhere lost the meaning of life that we used to have. For example…I have talked to some students and sometime I tell him the various ways to enjoy life that brings quality in life but they wonders how can one enjoy without alcohol(have masti without alcohol)..some even told me that do u mean us to leave doing masti in life(for they think there can be no masti in life without alcohol)!!! The whole notion of meaning of life has been changing. We are in transition phase and many unprepared mind who never get opportunity to realize the quality of life get into trouble sometime. Everyone is running after success and what is success? Success means getting good grades, getting a good job….and so much enjoyment(masti!)…Masti nahin ki to life me … kat gaya! Now, few unfortunate are not able to balance all these things together and so they feel they are not successful and so there is nothing to live for. Somehow the whole society seems to be responsible. Parents also seem to be responsible for seldom any couple think what does it mean by being a good parents before bringing their kids on this earth.

Religion is dying and so is dying the whole notion of meaning that religion had with it. The meaing of life associated with religion may look illogical but it is true that somehow people believed in some meaning however absurd it may appear. Now we are in the process to find meaning of life for ourselves and the whole society is confused and that is the main cause of suicides!

suicide cases indicate the lack of meaning in society, the lack of meaning of life in individuals. until unless individuals find meaning for themselves, it seems that neither depression nor suicide cases will stop…
